The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has emphasised the growing significance of the Teshie Homowo Festival in the Greater Accra Region, describing it as more than a cultural celebration and a key catalyst for tourism development, economic growth, and community transformation.
Speaking in Parliament, the Minister said the festival presents a major opportunity for Ghana to strengthen its tourism appeal by integrating traditional celebrations into national and international promotional strategies.
She noted that incorporating events such as Homowo into flagship initiatives like the Black Star Experience would help position Ghana’s cultural heritage as a powerful tool for attracting global attention, creating employment, and supporting local businesses.
Hon. Gomashie stressed that culture remains one of Ghana’s strongest development assets, adding that traditional music, cuisine, and artistic expressions associated with festivals continue to contribute significantly to job creation and economic activity in host communities.
She further explained that the broader vision is to leverage Ghana’s rich cultural identity to drive sustainable development while ensuring that traditions are preserved and passed on to future generations.
According to her, deliberate investment in cultural tourism will not only boost economic opportunities but also reinforce national identity and pride.
