The President of the Republic of Ghana H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Mr. David Prah as the Director-General for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service effective 10th August 2024.
Mr. David Prah is the currently the Deputy Director-General responsible for Operations at the Ghana TVET Service.
Mr. Prah’s appointment follows the official retirement of the current Director General of the Service, Madam Mawusi Nudekor Awity from the Public Service.
Madam Mawusi retired in August 2021 and was given two years extension which ended in the first week of August 2024.
Mr. David Prah is a consummate Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Specialist, a Competence-Based Training (CBT) Expert, and a seasoned Academic, with a career spanning over three decades.
Previously, in his role as the Senior Government and Public Relations Officer at the Volta River Authority (VRA),where he liaised with the Government, Ministries and the Public.
Moreover, he was at the forefront of delivering on strategic corporate goals and managing corporate communication efforts for major State institutions, including the Ghana National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Employment Agency (YEA), and the National Information Technology Agency (NITA). From 2017 -2019, he held the position of Corporate Affairs Director, consistently elevating the profile and communication strategies of these institutions.
In 2014 at the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET), Mr. David Prah assumed the role as the Quality Assurance Officer. His responsibilities included monitoring and ensuring compliance with COTVET’s quality criteria for TVET providers and Qualifications Awarding Bodies. David also, conducted due diligence in accrediting TVET Providers, showcasing expertise in coordinating Quality Assurance and Quality Management Systems, Leaning Materials Development in TVET CBT Programme Design and Development.
As a Competency-Based Trainer, Mr. Prah lectured on Competency Based Training (PTC) Facilitation Methods and Occupational Standard Generation, Unit Specifications, Learning Materials Development, among others at the University of Education, Kumasi – COLTEK in 2015.
His influence extends beyond borders, as evidenced by his participation in a number of international workshops, such as “Improving Work Opportunities for Young People in the Commonwealth,” organized by the British Council in London in 2019 and 2020. Again, he participated in the CBT curriculum development for the Oil and Gas Capacity Building for the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Accra.
Throughout his academic tenure, David co-authored and published numerous course books and dissertations, solidifying his contribution to the field of academia. His leadership roles include serving as Member/Secretary of the Training Quality Assurance Committee of COTVET Board (Jan. 2015 – June 2017) and was a Member/Secretary of the Technical Sub-Committee on the conversion of the Polytechnic into Technical University NCTE/COTVET, August 2015.
