The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has projected increases in the prices of petrol, diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

This follows a sharp rise in international crude oil and refined petroleum product prices during the latest pricing window.

In a statement dated Sunday, September 13, 2026, COPEC said petrol is expected to increase by 4.24% to GH¢16.26 per litre, while diesel could rise by 10.23% to GH¢19.07 per litre. LPG is also projected to sell at GH¢15.32 per kilogramme.

According to the Chamber, the projected increases are largely due to the rise in the global crude oil price from US$89.30 to US$103.07 per barrel. The development has also pushed up the international prices of refined petroleum products.

COPEC said the Free on Board (FOB) price of petrol increased from US$1,136.50 to US$1,251.07 per metric tonne, representing a 10.08% increase. Diesel also recorded a 12.33% rise, from US$1,250.50 to US$1,404.73 per metric tonne.

The Chamber noted that the Ghana cedi appreciated marginally by 0.29% against the US dollar during the period, with the interbank rate moving from GH¢11.5166 to GH¢11.4830 to the dollar.

COPEC expects diesel prices to range between GH¢18.12 and GH¢20.02 per litre, while petrol prices could range from GH¢15.44 to GH¢17.08 per litre.

The Chamber has appealed to the government to extend its fuel subsidy intervention to cushion consumers from the expected increases.

“COPEC would like to appeal to the government to extend its subsidy intervention beyond the first window of September by giving consumers of petrol a Ghc1/L reliief while continuing with the Ghc2/L on diesel until global benchmarks return to normalcy.”

COPEC also urged government to accelerate the expansion of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) from its current 45,000 barrels per day capacity to 100,000 barrels per day.

According to the Chamber, expanding TOR would help reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported finished petroleum products.

The projections apply to the second pricing window for September, which begins on Wednesday, September 16.
