President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to expedite its investigations and demonstrate its relevance, describing calls for its closure as premature.
He made tjis remark during a meeting with the National Peace Council’s Governing Board, which was attended by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, and other officials on we, December 10.
The President acknowledged public impatience for more prosecutions but urged the office to deliver tangible results.
The remarks come amid growing criticism of the OSP’s performance, with petitions urging the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
Meanwhile, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga and Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor recently filed a Private Members’ Bill seeking the complete repeal of the OSP Act, intensifying the debate over the office’s future.
