Upper East/R: Bugzunde residents demand completion of abandoned school, roads and bridge

Residents of Bugzunde in the Kutanga Electoral Area of the Bawku Municipality are calling for urgent attention to what they describe as years of inadequate infrastructure in the community.

Their concerns include an unfinished school project that has remained incomplete since 2009, poor road conditions and the lack of a reliable bridge over a stream that becomes impassable during the rainy season.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Nicholas Ayaaba said work on the Bugzunde Community School started during the tenure of the current Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, but the facility is yet to be completed and formally handed over to the Municipal Assembly.

He said the situation continues to affect access to education for both pupils and teachers.

Residents also raised concerns about the stream connecting Bugzunde and Zuku, which they say frequently overflows during heavy rains, leaving the community cut off from Bawku and surrounding areas.

Community members expressed frustration over what they consider prolonged neglect and appealed to the government and relevant authorities to address the infrastructure challenges.

They specifically called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Mahama Ayariga and the Bawku Municipal Chief Executive to prioritise the completion of the school, improvement of the roads and construction of a suitable crossing over the stream.

The residents say addressing these needs would improve access to education, transportation and essential services for people in Bugzunde.
