A Brussels Airlines flight from Accra to Lomé has returned safely to the Accra International Airport after experiencing a technical fault shortly after takeoff, according to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
Flight SN278 departed Accra at 6:06 p.m. on Monday but was forced to turn back after the flight crew detected an issue during the flight. As a precautionary safety measure, the pilots decided to return to Accra, where the aircraft landed safely at 6:18 p.m.
The GCAA commended the crew for following established aviation safety procedures and assured passengers and the public that the safety of travellers and crew remains the highest priority.
The aviation regulator said the technical issue that led to the aircraft’s return is currently being investigated by Brussels Airlines in line with standard aviation safety procedures, under the oversight of the GCAA.
Following the incident, Brussels Airlines cancelled Flight SN278.
The airline is providing assistance to affected passengers in accordance with the Ghana Civil Aviation (Economic) Directives, 2019, Part 2, which outlines consumer protection measures for air travellers.
The GCAA reiterated that Ghana’s aviation safety and security oversight system remains strong and continues to operate under internationally recognised standards.
