New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed sympathy to victims of the devastating floods that affected parts of Accra and other communities following Monday’s torrential rains.

In a message shared on his X account, Dr. Bawumia conveyed his condolences to families who lost loved ones and property, while offering prayers for those displaced by the disaster.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the thousands of our people affected by the floods.

My deepest sympathies to those who have lost their loved ones, properties, and those who have been forced out of their homes,” he wrote.

He urged the public to cooperate with government and emergency response agencies by adhering to safety directives aimed at protecting lives during the ongoing rescue and recovery operations.

Dr. Bawumia also appealed to the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the security services and other relevant agencies to intensify efforts to rescue stranded residents and provide assistance to affected communities.

“I urge citizens to comply with all directives issued by the Government and to cooperate fully with institutions mandated to address the situation.

I also urge the emergency services and all relevant authorities to do everything possible to reach those in need and assist them,” he stated.

Despite the widespread destruction caused by the floods, the former Vice President expressed optimism that the country would overcome the crisis through unity and compassion.

“We will get through this difficult time by caring for one another,” he added.

The floods, triggered by nearly 140 millimetres of rainfall over a 48-hour period, submerged homes, businesses and major roads across the Greater Accra Region.

Several communities, including Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Adabraka, Kaneshie and Tse Addo, were among the worst affected, while emergency responders continue rescue operations and relief efforts for displaced residents.
