Rescue operations at the site of the collapsed three-storey building at Avenor in North Kaneshie, in the Greater Accra Region, have been completed, with authorities confirming a death toll of two.
Emergency responders recovered the bodies of two victims from the rubble following hours of intensive search and rescue efforts at the scene.
Two other persons were successfully rescued from the debris and transported to hospital for medical treatment.
The building, which collapsed on Sunday, June 7, at Avenor in North Kaneshie, triggered a major emergency response involving personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other security and disaster management agencies.
Rescue teams worked through the day to search for survivors amid fears that additional victims could be trapped beneath the debris.
The latest update indicates that the death toll from the incident remains at two, while the two injured survivors continue to receive treatment.
Authorities are yet to announce the cause of the collapse as investigations are expected to commence.
The incident has renewed concerns about building safety and compliance with construction regulations, following a number of structural failures recorded across the country in recent years.
