Three people have been charged in connection with the violent incident at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) that disrupted activities at the school earlier this month.
According to a charge sheet filed at the Circuit Court in Obuasi, the accused are Kwasi Brefo alias Allah, 41, a teacher; Appiah Arthur Joseph alias Nana Appiah, 54, a teacher; and Desmond Owusu, a student, alongside other persons listed as being at large.
The accused persons are facing charges of causing harm and unlawful damage under the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The charge sheet alleges that on August 4, 2026, at Obuasi SHTS in the Ashanti Region, the accused persons caused harm to Abdulai Zakari, with injuries including cuts and bruises.
They are also accused of causing unlawful damage to property belonging to Obuasi Senior High Technical School, although the value of the damaged items had not been determined at the time the charge sheet was prepared.
The charges follow an incident at the school in which the headmaster was reportedly attacked by students, leading to heightened tensions and the intervention of security agencies.
Following the unrest, the Obuasi Municipal Assembly ordered the indefinite closure of the school as authorities worked to restore calm and safeguard students and staff.
The Ministry of Education subsequently condemned the violence and called for a full investigation into the incident.
