Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has been re-elected as President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) after securing a decisive victory in the association’s national elections held on Monday, June 30, 2025.
Mr. Dwumfour secured 445 votes, representing 64.49 percent of the valid ballots cast, to defeat his sole challenger, Charles Yao Mawusi, garnered 245 votes, representing 35.51 percent.
The elections, which attracted over 800 accredited members of the association, also saw the election of new national executives and regional leaders.
Despite joining the race late, Mr. Mawusi’s candidacy added unexpected competition to the presidential contest, forcing the incumbent to recalibrate his campaign strategy to retain his seat.
Other national positions were also keenly contested with Kofi Yeboah retaining his seat as General Secretary after beating Akwasi Agyemang of Adom FM with 348 votes against Agyemang’s 208.
In the Organising Secretary race, GTV’s Dominic Hlordzi defeated Mary Mensah of the Daily Graphic with 300 votes to 255
Madam Mensah had served as the association’s Public Affairs Officer for two terms and was seeking a change in portfolio.
For the Public Affairs Officer position, Rebecca Ekpe of GBC emerged victorious over Caesar Abagali of the Ghana News Agency’s Wa office.
The Vice President and Treasurer positions were uncontested, with incumbents Linda Asante Agyei and Audrey Dekalu, both from the Ghana News Agency, retaining their seats for a second term.
Mr. Dwumfour, who also serves as Head of Corporate Affairs at the Tobinco Group, first won the GJA presidency in 2022 after defeating Gayheart Mensah and Dave Agbenu in a hotly contested election.
His latest victory gives him a renewed mandate to lead the association for another term.
