The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 19-year-old robbery suspect following a swift response by a night patrol team to a robbery incident at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, identified as Ahmed Mustapha, was arrested in the early hours of Monday, July 21, after allegedly attacking and robbing a man of his mobile phone.
According to a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team received information at about 12:20 a.m. that a male victim had been robbed and left unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.
The patrol team immediately rushed to the scene. Upon spotting the police, the suspect reportedly fled and hid in an uncompleted building but was pursued and apprehended by the officers.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the retrieval of the victim’s stolen mobile phone and a machete believed to have been used in the attack. Both items have been retained by the police as exhibits.
The victim sustained machete wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand and was rushed to the KNUST Hospital, where he was admitted for emergency treatment.
Police said officers later visited the victim at about 5:30 a.m. on the same day and confirmed that he had regained consciousness and was in stable condition while receiving further medical care.
Ahmed Mustapha remains in police custody assisting with investigations as authorities continue their inquiries into the incident.
