Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena and brother of former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, along with eight others, has been granted bail following a court appearance in connection with the shooting incident that left the former legislator injured.
The nine accused persons were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties. The court ruled that the sureties need not be justified but must sign a bail justification form.
The accused pleaded not guilty to five charges, including possession and use of offensive weapons, discharging firearms in public, causing unlawful damage, and offences relating to prohibited vigilante activities.
The case stems from a shooting incident linked to a leadership dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
The other accused persons are Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo, Benjamin Amoakwa Sam, Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred during activities connected to a disputed installation process within the mission and resulted in injuries to Adwoa Safo.
The court is expected to continue hearing the matter while investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
