President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that the government will begin settling arrears owed to road contractors by the end of July 2025.
He announced this while addressing the Council of State at the Jubilee House on Monday, July 7, 2025.
The announcement comes as a major relief for contractors who have long awaited payments, some of whom halted work due to cash flow constraints.
According to the President, the Ministry of Finance has made financial provisions in the mid-year budget to commence the long-awaited payments, which are aimed at resuming stalled infrastructure works across the country.
He acknowledged growing public frustration over delayed road projects, particularly on critical routes such as the Ofankor stretch, and assured that the government is treating the matter with urgency.
“Payment is about to start from the end of this month. The Minister of Finance has put some money aside to begin to clear the arrears of contractors,” President Mahama said.
“He’s prioritising payments to road contractors because several of the road contracts have stalled and slowed down.”
President Mahama emphasised that reviving road projects is not only important for easing transportation but also forms part of the government’s broader economic recovery agenda.
President Mahama assured the Council of State that following the budget presentation, the government will return for further consultations to review progress made in key sectors.
