Media personality and journalist, Bridget Otoo, has been appointed as a Presidential Staffer at the Office of Government Communications.

Her appointment has been widely interpreted as an acknowledgment of her years of public advocacy, outspoken commentary on national issues, and commitment to the country’s development agenda.

The news follows months of speculation and public debate, with many Ghanaians openly questioning the delay in her appointment, especially given her visible and vocal support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Dramani Mahama during the 2024 election campaign.

Bridget Otoo’s name became a regular trend on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), where some users jokingly described the situation as a “monkey dey work, baboon dey chop” scenario.

Bridget Otoo has long been recognised as a prominent figure in Ghana’s media space, known for her bold personality on television and her fearless approach to addressing pressing social issues.

Following the announcement, she took to Facebook on Friday, June 27, to reflect on her journey and express gratitude for the opportunity to serve in government.

“So it begins….On January 7, I awoke like most Ghanaians, jittery with anticipation and ready to witness the swearing-in of our new President – a President chosen in a historic landslide victory to reset the fates of our beloved country, Ghana,” she wrote.

Bridget Otoo also recounted how, after years of supporting President Mahama — despite the risks — she had eagerly anticipated the victory celebrations.

Unfortunately, a routine medical check-up turned into a weeks-long hospital admission, forcing her to watch the inauguration from a hospital bed.

Despite those challenges, she expressed pride in being called upon to serve once she recovered.

“This appointment to serve at the Seat of Government as a ‘Presidential Staffer, Government Communications’, although earned on my part through grit, dedication and hard work is still an incredible privilege that I intend to prove myself worthy of, for the duration of my service,” she added.

In her post, Bridget Otoo extended her appreciation to President Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama, Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Xoese Dogbe, Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and NDC grassroots supporters, as well as others who had encouraged and supported her along the way.
