Damang Gold Mine Limited (DGML) has intensified efforts to promote women’s health in its host communities by organising a breast cancer awareness and screening outreach in Koduakrom as part of its 2026 Pinktober campaign.
The outreach, which marked the climax of the mine’s annual breast cancer awareness activities, brought health education and screening services closer to residents under the theme, “Early Action, Better Outcomes.”
The event was attended by the community’s Queen Mother and the General Manager of Damang Gold Mine, Mr Sampson Arthur, alongside staff of the company.
Healthcare professionals used the programme to educate participants on breast cancer, including its risk factors, warning signs, prevention and the importance of early detection and timely medical attention.
Beyond breast cancer awareness, the programme also addressed other women’s health concerns, including cervical cancer, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and menopause.
Participants received information on the symptoms, risk factors and available approaches to managing these conditions, while the screening activities provided an opportunity for residents to access health services within their community.
Damang Gold Mine said the initiative formed part of its broader commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of people in its host communities.
The company emphasised that its responsibility to surrounding communities extended beyond mining operations to include support for the health, dignity and welfare of residents.
It also encouraged women to seek regular screening, pay attention to changes in their health and seek medical advice promptly.
The outreach formed part of DGML’s 2026 Pinktober activities, which seek to promote awareness, encourage early action and support efforts to reduce the impact of breast cancer and other women’s health conditions.
