The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who recorded a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes of study.
In a notice issued on Thursday, October 22, the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate said the directive was in accordance with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which sets out the requirements for academic progression.
Under the regulation, undergraduate students are required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and satisfy the academic requirements of their respective schools or departments to qualify for progression to the next level.
The Directorate explained that the university’s regulations do not provide for academic probation.
Consequently, students whose CGPAs remain below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released will be required to withdraw.
The university has advised affected students to check their academic standing through the Management Information System (MIS) Web before initiating the withdrawal process.
Students are required to log in to the Student and Staff Portal (STS) at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their Student ID and PIN, then select the “Withdrawal Request” option to begin the process.
However, the Directorate noted that for some programmes, the relevant school or department would initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.
Students who require clarification about their academic standing or the withdrawal procedure have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.
The university also indicated that its Careers and Counselling Directorate remains available to provide guidance and support to students affected by the directive.
The decision underscores the university’s academic progression requirements, which students must meet to remain enrolled in their undergraduate programmes.
