The Ghana Police Service says a 19-year-old woman in custody over the death of her 33-year-old boyfriend at Ofankor Barrier in Accra reportedly admitted stabbing him during a disagreement.
The suspect, Emmanuella Asante, was arrested on October 10, a day after the alleged incident, and has been remanded into police custody to reappear in court on November 3, 2026.
The deceased, Enoch Abrokwa, died on October 14 while receiving treatment at the Ridge Hospital after sustaining a deep wound during the alleged confrontation.
According to the Accra Regional Police Command, preliminary investigations indicate that the disagreement occurred on Friday, October 9, at the deceased’s business premises.
The confrontation allegedly escalated, resulting in Madam Asante stabbing Abrokwa in the chest with a piece of broken glass.
The police said the victim was initially rushed to a hospital at Taifa-Burkina before being referred to the Ridge Hospital, where he underwent surgery for a deep wound that affected his intestines.
He, however, died while receiving treatment.
In a statement on Wednesday, October 21, the police said the suspect was brought to them by the complainant and three other people following her arrest.
“The accused person was arrested on 10th October 2026 and brought to the Police by the complainant and three others,” the statement said.
The police added that the suspect reportedly admitted to the stabbing and remained in custody as investigations continued.
Madam Asante has been put before the court and remanded into police custody, with her next appearance scheduled for November 3.
The Tesano Divisional Police Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding Abrokwa’s death.
Following the incident, the Accra Regional Police Command called on the public to avoid violence when resolving disagreements.
“The Accra Regional Police Command urges the public to resolve disagreements peacefully and refrain from violence,” the statement said.
The command also urged the public to assist investigators as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The public is also encouraged to cooperate with the Police as investigations continue and appropriate action is taken in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
