Minority Leader Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin has filed fresh defamation suits against Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi and National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) CEO Eric Adjei following setbacks in earlier legal proceedings.
The new actions seek to revive his complaints over statements the legislator considers defamatory, with the latest filings made at the Accra High Court.
In a statement dated Tuesday, October 20, 2026, his solicitor, F. Paa Kwesi Abaidoo of Dehyena Chambers, confirmed that a fresh writ against Mr. Adjei had been filed after the earlier case at the Achimota Circuit Court was discontinued.
The new case, numbered GJ/0061/2027, concerns statements allegedly made by Mr. Adjei on Peace FM.
“Following the discontinuance of the suit of Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin against Mr. Eric Adjei, Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) at the Achimota Circuit Court this morning, a fresh writ, Suit No. GJ/0061/2027 has been filed at the Accra High Court this afternoon on the substantive matter of defamatory statements made by Mr. Adjei on Peace FM,” the statement said.
The lawyer also confirmed that a separate fresh writ against Mr. Gyamfi, numbered GJ/0045/2027, was filed on October 15 over statements allegedly made during the Government Accountability Series and on Joy FM’s Newsfile programme.
The fresh filings follow an October 14 decision by the Accra High Court to set aside an earlier defamation suit against Mr. Gyamfi.
The court ruled that the original writ, filed on August 24, did not contain sufficient particulars of the allegedly defamatory publication as required under Order 57 Rule 2 of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2004 (C.I. 47).
The ruling addressed the procedural validity of the action and did not determine the merits of the defamation allegations.
Afenyo-Markin had sought GH¢15 million in damages from Mr Gyamfi and an order compelling him to issue a retraction and apology over remarks describing the Minority Leader as an “extortionist”.
The dispute arose amid public exchanges over the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme and questions surrounding reported financial losses.
Mr Adjei had also made allegations of extortion against Afenyo-Markin following the Minority Leader’s criticism of GoldBod and its chief executive.
According to the statement, the fresh writ against Mr. Gyamfi was filed despite the legal team’s disagreement with the High Court’s earlier decision.
“Although we disagree with the High Court’s earlier decision setting aside our client’s previous writ, this new writ has been issued against the Defendants in accordance with the Court’s latest Interpretation of the rules,” the statement said.
