The race for the Ashanti Regional Communications officer position of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has gained momentum following the filing of nomination by Mahmud Kabore, Spokesperson for the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
Mr. Kabore filed his nomination on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, joining a growing list of party communicators seeking to occupy one of the NDC’s key regional communication positions ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The Ashanti Region, widely regarded as a stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), is expected to be a critical battleground for the NDC as it seeks to consolidate its support and strengthen its grassroots presence.
Mr. Kabore is a familiar face on radio and television and currently serves as the media spokesperson for the Lands Ministry.
In that role, he has been involved in communicating government positions on major national issues, including illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, land administration reforms and the protection of forest reserves.
Sources close to the aspirant say his decision to contest the position is motivated by a desire to strengthen the NDC’s communication structures in the Ashanti Region and bring his experience in government communication to the party’s grassroots messaging.
The Regional Communications officer if elected is expected to coordinate the party’s communication activities, manage media relations, articulate NDC policies and respond to opposition narratives across the region.
With his nomination filed, Mr. Kabore now joins other party communicators competing for the position.
The aspirants are expected to undergo vetting in the coming days as the NDC prepares for its regional executive elections.
Some party supporters in Kumasi have welcomed his decision to contest, describing him as an articulate and experienced communicator with the ability to connect with the party’s grassroots base.
The outcome of the contest is expected to determine who will lead the NDC’s regional communication efforts as the party prepares for the 2028 elections.
