The Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area in the Central Region, Osbarima Kwasi Atta II, has expressed strong support for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), describing its interventions as a source of renewed hope for the future of healthcare delivery in Ghana.
The Oguaa Omanhene made the remarks when the Administrator of the GMTF, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, paid a courtesy call on him in Cape Coast.
The engagement formed part of the second day of the Fund’s sensitisation tour of the Central Region, which seeks to educate communities and key stakeholders on the GMTF’s mandate and interventions.
Osbarima Kwasi Atta II said the establishment of the Fund and its efforts to expand access to specialised healthcare were among the most encouraging developments he had heard about in recent times.
“There is hope for the future,” he said.
The traditional leader pledged the support of the Oguaa Traditional Council in creating awareness about the GMTF and ensuring that information about its interventions reaches people who may need assistance.
He said traditional authorities had an important role to play in connecting communities to initiatives capable of improving their welfare, particularly vulnerable families who may struggle to access specialised medical care.
“I will help spread the message,” Osbarima Kwasi Atta II assured the GMTF Administrator.
He also urged the management of the Fund to remain focused on its mandate despite criticism or opposition, stressing that initiatives aimed at providing relief to Ghanaians facing serious challenges deserved encouragement and support.
The Oguaa Omanhene also expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the vision behind the establishment of the GMTF.
He said the Fund had the potential to make a significant difference in the lives of families dealing with serious illnesses and the financial burden associated with specialised treatment.
According to him, the initiative offers renewed hope to people who might otherwise be overwhelmed by the cost of accessing critical healthcare.
The endorsement adds the voice of traditional leadership to stakeholder engagement surrounding the GMTF as the Fund intensifies its nationwide sensitisation campaign.
The campaign is aimed at deepening public understanding of the Fund’s mandate and interventions while ensuring that Ghanaians, particularly people living with chronic and serious diseases, know where and how to seek support.
