A leading figure of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Offinso North, Charles Kwabena Boateng Sumaila, popularly known as “Fine Boy,” has pledged to work towards winning the constituency’s parliamentary seat for the party.
Mr Sumaila, a former Independent Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency made the declaration while addressing party supporters at the NDC Secretariat in Akumadan.
His remarks followed a vetting and balloting exercise held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Akumadan, the capital of the Offinso North District.
According to Mr Sumaila, the Offinso North parliamentary seat should be won by the NDC, but the party’s repeated defeats in parliamentary elections in the constituency have been caused by what he described as ineffective leadership and a lack of clear direction.
He called on party members and delegates to support his leadership and pledged to deploy political, financial and strategic resources towards strengthening the NDC and improving its electoral fortunes in the constituency.
Mr Sumaila, who has reportedly supported the NDC financially since his defeat as an independent candidate in the 2020 parliamentary election, said his priority would be to build a stronger and more competitive party organisation.
He expressed confidence that the NDC could break the New Patriotic Party’s hold on the parliamentary seat through effective organisation and a united campaign.
The vetting and balloting exercise was largely peaceful, although a disagreement between supporters of opposing factions reportedly resulted in a brief confrontation at the end of the process.
The two contenders for the constituency chairmanship, incumbent Chairman Hon. John K. Ameyaw and Charles K. Boateng Sumaila, both condemned the incident.
Speaking to media, the two candidates called on their supporters to remain calm and conduct the campaign in a peaceful manner.
They urged party members to prioritise mutual respect, unity and the broader interests of the NDC as the constituency prepares for its internal elections.
