President John Dramani Mahama has touted Ghana’s economic recovery, saying his government’s “Resetting Ghana Agenda” has delivered significant improvements in key economic indicators.
Addressing the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday, September 24, 2026, President Mahama said disciplined governance, fiscal prudence and efforts to fight corruption had helped stabilise the economy.
“Less than two years into my administration, through disciplined governance, fiscal prudence, and an uncompromising fight against corruption, Ghana has achieved a dramatic economic turnaround. Indeed, some circles describe it as the ‘Ghanaian miracle,’” he said.
He said the government’s measures had restored growth, reduced inflation, stabilised the cedi and lowered the country’s public debt burden.
“Our macroeconomic stabilisation measures have restored growth, drastically reduced inflation, stabilised our national currency, and significantly lowered our public debt burden,” President Mahama stated.
According to him, the recovery had also received validation from multilateral financial institutions and international credit rating agencies, with Ghana moving “from economic vulnerability to sustained recovery, resilience, and growth.”
However, President Mahama cautioned that economic gains must translate into better living conditions for Ghanaians.
“But macroeconomic indicators mean little if they do not translate into real improvements in our people’s daily lives. Economic growth must have a human face,” he said.
He also highlighted the Big Push Programme, the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, and the forthcoming ‘New Ghana, New Economy’ policy as key initiatives for infrastructure development, industrialisation and job creation.
