The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested seven suspected armed robbers allegedly involved in robbery activities across Zebilla, Garu and Binduri.
The suspects are Issaka Iddrisu, 20; Ali Tamimu, 21; Akugre Amobila, 26; Banabas Apiiga, 41; Abdul-Rashid Adamu, 38; Apiiga Alebena, 21; and Bilal Adabodee, 31.
According to the Police, the arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Police Intelligence Department (PID), the newly formed Black Cobra Unit and the Zebilla Community Watchdogs.
The Police said the suspects have confessed to belonging to a wider network of gangs that allegedly supplies them with weapons for their operations in Zebilla, Garu and Binduri.
Two victims subsequently reported the matter to the Police and identified two of the suspects as members of a group of three armed robbers who allegedly robbed them at gunpoint.
The victims told the Police that the robbers made away with two Yamaha scooter motorbikes valued at GH¢30,000 and GH¢32,000 respectively.
The victims were also allegedly threatened with death if they reported the incident to the Police.
The Police said the two suspects admitted to robbing the victims at gunpoint.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly told investigators that the weapon used in the robbery was supplied to them by a person in Bawku, who they identified as their source for weapons and safe keeping.
The Police Command said efforts have since been intensified to identify and arrest the alleged weapons supplier.
All seven suspects have been remanded into Police custody by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court and are expected to reappear on September 23, 2026.
The arrests form part of ongoing efforts by the Upper East Regional Police Command to disrupt armed robbery activities and dismantle networks allegedly supporting such operations in the region.
