The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has commended Bright Senior High School for making history as the first private school to reach the semi-final stage of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

The Minister made the commendation when he visited the school on Friday, September 4, 2026, as part of his working visit to the Eastern Region.

He was accompanied by the Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey.

Mr George congratulated the students, teachers and management of the school for their impressive performance and urged the students to build on the achievement by pursuing excellence in science, technology and innovation.

During the visit, the Minister announced that Bright SHS would be enrolled onto the government’s One Million Coders Programme, as senior high schools across the country are gradually being onboarded onto the initiative.

He explained that the programme was designed to equip students with practical digital skills in areas including Artificial Intelligence, software development, cybersecurity, data analytics and digital literacy.

Mr George encouraged the students to complement their strong academic performance with practical skills in emerging technologies to improve their opportunities in the digital economy.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs Awatey, also stressed the need for students to combine academic excellence with discipline and skills development to prepare themselves for future opportunities.

She congratulated the students and staff of Bright SHS and urged them to sustain the standards that have contributed to the school’s growing reputation for academic excellence.

Bright SHS secured its place in the NSMQ semi-final after defeating Chemu Senior High Technical School and Amaniampong Senior High School in the quarter-final stage.

The school emerged victorious with 27 points, ahead of Chemu SHS Technical School with 26 points and Amaniampong SHS with 22 points.

In the semi-final, Bright SHS finished second with 44 points.

Accra Academy topped the contest with 54 points, while Achimota School placed third with 43 points.

Although the school fell short of reaching the grand finale, its semi-final appearance marked a historic achievement for Bright SHS and represented a significant milestone for private schools in the NSMQ.
