The Energy Commission has intensified regulatory cooperation with energy institutions across Africa through a series of study and benchmarking engagements with delegations from Niger, Nigeria, Kenya and the Kingdom of Eswatini.

Over the past few months, the Commission has hosted the visiting delegations, providing them with an opportunity to examine Ghana’s experience in energy-sector regulation and related areas.

The engagements focused on key regulatory measures, including Minimum Energy Performance Standards, energy labelling, market surveillance, compliance monitoring and enforcement.

The Commission said the exchanges have highlighted the common challenges confronting energy regulators across the continent, despite differences in national circumstances and energy systems.

It noted that as Africa’s energy landscape continues to evolve, regulators must consistently strengthen their institutional capacity, regulatory frameworks and enforcement mechanisms to respond effectively to emerging challenges.

The Commission said there was significant value in African regulators learning from one another and sharing both successful approaches and practical lessons from implementation.

While Ghana has valuable regulatory experience to share, the Commission acknowledged that it also has much to learn from its counterparts across the continent.

The Energy Commission reaffirmed its commitment to regulatory cooperation and knowledge-sharing as part of efforts to strengthen institutions and contribute to the development of a more resilient, efficient and sustainable energy sector in Africa.
