The Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) has held its 22nd Graduation Ceremony, with 572 students graduating from doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degree programmes.

The ceremony, held in Accra on August 29, 2026, saw eight PhD, 69 master’s and 495 bachelor’s graduates receive their degrees.

The bachelor’s graduates comprised 405 students from AIT’s campus-based programmes and 90 from its Open University programmes.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the graduation of eight new PhD scholars, taking the university’s cumulative number of PhD graduates to more than 100.

The latest cohort also marked the 14th time AIT has graduated PhD scholars.

President of AIT, Professor Clement K. Dzidonu, described the achievement as a significant milestone for the relatively young university.

He noted that more than half of AIT’s PhD graduates had attained professorial rank within three years of completing their doctoral studies.

Prof. Dzidonu further said AIT’s influence was increasingly evident across Ghana’s higher education sector, with PhD graduates of the institution serving on the faculties of several public and private universities.

He added that academic and senior administrative staff from almost all public and private universities in Ghana had also undertaken doctoral studies at AIT.

AIT’s postgraduate research programmes cover areas including Engineering, Information Technology, Education and Business Administration, contributing to the university’s focus on research, innovation and Ghana’s science, technology and innovation agenda.

The latest graduation also adds 495 new bachelor’s graduates and 69 master’s graduates to the university’s alumni community, increasing the pool of skilled professionals entering the Ghanaian workforce.

AIT said the graduation represented more than an annual academic milestone, highlighting its growing contribution to human capital development, postgraduate research and academic leadership within Ghana’s university system.

Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees, Emeritus Professor Ivan Addae-Mensah, commended the university for achieving key milestones despite its relatively young age.

He described AIT as a university that is “fast becoming a world-class private technological university” and congratulated the graduating class on their achievement.

Prof. Addae-Mensah, however, reminded the graduates that graduation marked only the beginning of their professional journey.

He urged them to make effective use of the knowledge and opportunities gained through their education as they pursue their careers and contribute to society.

Prof. Dzidonu, in addressing the Class of 2026, urged the graduates to embrace continuous learning as technological advancement, particularly Artificial Intelligence, continues to reshape the world of work.

He encouraged them to become what he described as “Sovereign Lifelong Learners”—individuals who take personal responsibility for continuously developing their skills, knowledge and professional capabilities.

He challenged the graduates to “See the Opportunity, Explore the Possibility and Create the Difference,” urging them to apply their education not only to build successful careers but also to create value and make meaningful contributions to society.

AIT is accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to offer campus-based and Open University undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The university is affiliated with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for campus-based undergraduate programmes in engineering, computer science/IT and business administration, while its Open University programmes at the master’s and PhD levels are affiliated with the Open University of Malaysia.
