The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially closed nominations for its 2026 National Officers Elections, with 47 aspirants successfully filing to contest various positions.

The party’s National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC), in a statement signed by its Chairman, Frederick Opare-Ansah, said the filing process ended at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The number represents a reduction from the 50 individuals who initially purchased nomination forms to contest the various positions.

The NOEC said three aspirants who purchased nomination forms did not complete the filing process before the deadline.

Former Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, formally withdrew his candidature for the National Chairperson position.

The committee said Mr Boasiako communicated his decision in writing and expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to contest.

Evans Kodom, who had purchased forms to contest the National Communications Director position, also opted out of the race.

According to the NOEC, Mr Kodom accompanied Dennis Miracles Aboagye during the filing process and subsequently announced his decision to withdraw.

Mr Aboagye is therefore the only aspirant for the National Communications Director position and will proceed to the vetting stage as a potentially unopposed candidate, subject to successfully completing the process.

Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada, who purchased forms to contest the National Women Organiser position, also failed to submit her completed forms before the close of nominations and will not proceed to vetting.

With nominations now closed, the NOEC will commence the vetting of the 47 aspirants on Monday, August 31, and continue through Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Monday, August 31: National Chairperson, General Secretary and National Treasurer

Tuesday, September 1: National Vice Chairpersons

Wednesday, September 2: National Organiser and National Youth Organiser

Thursday, September 3: National Communications Director, National Nasara Organiser and National Women Organiser

The NOEC said details regarding the specific times, venues and requirements for the vetting would be communicated directly to the aspirants.

The committee urged all aspirants to remain available and cooperate with the process as scheduled.

It also thanked the candidates for what it described as an orderly filing process and commended the media for its extensive coverage.

The NOEC assured members of the party and the public that the vetting process would be conducted in a fair, transparent and credible manner as the NPP prepares to elect its next crop of national officers.
