Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has called for the rich cultural heritage of Bonoman to be leveraged to create tourism, investment and economic opportunities for communities in the area.
The Vice President made the call when she joined traditional leaders and residents of Bonoman for the 2026 Meko Bono festival in Atebubu, alongside the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, Atebubu Member of Parliament Sanja Nanja and other government officials.
She said festivals such as Meko Bono should go beyond cultural celebrations and serve as platforms for promoting tourism, enterprise development, investment and local economic growth.
According to her, preserving Bonoman’s history must include protecting its languages, traditional institutions, cultural sites and indigenous knowledge for future generations.
She assured traditional authorities that government would continue to collaborate with them to advance development in areas including agriculture, infrastructure, environmental protection, land use and community development.
The Vice President also highlighted opportunities available to Atebubu under the government’s 24-Hour Economy, Accelerated Export Development and Feed Ghana programmes.
She identified agro-processing, transport, logistics and agricultural value addition as key areas with the potential to create jobs and stimulate economic activity in the area.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang further pointed to ongoing road investments under the government’s Big Push programme, saying improved road connectivity would help link farming communities to markets and strengthen agricultural value chains.
She commended the organisers of the Meko Bono festival for sustaining the event over the past five years and for strengthening bonds among the people of Bonoman.
The Vice President urged stakeholders to translate the relationships, ideas and investments generated through the festival into concrete and lasting development initiatives.
She expressed the hope that Meko Bono would continue to preserve Bonoman’s cultural heritage while creating new opportunities for tourism, investment and socio-economic development in the region.
