Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has dismissed claims that he is seeking to take over the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), describing the allegations as false and part of attempts to damage his reputation.
The clarification follows a demonstration by the VALCO Labour Union, during which some participants alleged that Mr. Mahama was interested in acquiring the state-owned aluminium company.
In a statement issued on Monday July,27 2026 by his Special Aide, Rafik Mahama, the businessman said he has neither expressed interest in purchasing VALCO nor submitted any proposal regarding its acquisition.
The statement criticised the claims as another attempt to cast doubt on Mr. Mahama’s integrity and create unnecessary public controversy.
“Mr Ibrahim Mahama has no such interest and has not made any such offer to acquire VALCO,” the statement said.
It added that businesses linked to Mr. Mahama have been established or acquired through lawful processes and continue to operate within the required legal frameworks.
According to the statement, his business ventures have remained resilient over several years because of their commitment to proper governance and compliance with regulations.
“He is committed to contributing his quota to the development of Ghana by investing in business opportunities in Ghana and beyond,” it stated.
Mr. Mahama has since instructed his legal representatives to pursue appropriate action over the allegations.
