A 19-year-old man has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service in connection with a violent robbery at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality after officers responded quickly to a distress report during a routine night patrol.
The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. on July 21, when the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team received information that a man had been attacked, robbed of his mobile phone and left unconscious near the Asabi Presbyterian Church.
Police said the suspect attempted to escape upon noticing the patrol team, but officers tracked him to an uncompleted building where he was arrested.
“Upon seeing the Police, the suspect fled and hid in an uncompleted building. He was pursued and arrested.”
The suspect, identified as Ahmed Mustapha, was searched after his arrest. Officers recovered the victim’s stolen mobile phone and a machete, both of which have been seized as evidence for the ongoing investigation.
The victim suffered machete wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand and was rushed to the KNUST Hospital for emergency treatment. Police later visited him at the hospital at about 5:30 a.m. and confirmed that he had regained consciousness, was in stable condition and remains under medical observation.
Ahmed Mustapha is currently in police custody as investigations into the robbery continue.
