The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three suspects following the interception of approximately five million tablets of tramadol valued at an estimated GH¢100 million at Accra International Airport (AIA).
The suspects were picked up during an intelligence-led operation after officials uncovered a shipment believed to contain the illicit drugs as part of an attempted importation into the country.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was intended for distribution within Ghana and potentially other countries in the sub-region.
Investigators suspect the seizure may be linked to a larger drug trafficking syndicate and have launched further investigations to identify and apprehend other persons connected to the operation.
The intercepted tramadol tablets have been secured as evidence while forensic and documentary examinations continue.
NACOC said the operation forms part of its intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect public health and national security.
The Commission also urged the public to support law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities, stressing its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and prosecuting offenders.
The three suspects are expected to be arraigned before court upon the conclusion of investigations.
