A police investigation is underway into the alleged assault of a journalist and staff member of Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL), who was reportedly mistaken for an armed robbery suspect by officers in Accra.
The complainant, Alidu Mahama, a reporter with the state-owned media company, is said to have suffered injuries after the incident involving suspected officers from the Nungua Police Station at GREDA Estate in Teshie.
Mahama lodged an official complaint with the Police on July 14, 2026, prompting the Nungua District Police Command to commence investigations into the matter.
In a statement on Friday, July 17, the Accra Regional Police Command said a statement had been taken from the journalist and a police medical report form issued to facilitate his treatment and support investigations.
The Police added that efforts were ongoing to identify the officers allegedly involved for questioning and any further action deemed necessary.
The Command assured the public that the matter was being treated with the seriousness it deserved and that any officer found culpable would face sanctions in accordance with the law and police disciplinary procedures.
