The rain had barely eased over BMO Field and Ghanaian fans were still celebrating wildly when the emotional weight of Caleb Yirenkyi’s 95th-minute winner over Panama began to sink in.
But for Antoine Semenyo, there was one more moment to complete an unforgettable night.
The Antoine Semenyo, who was named FIFA’s Player of the Match after inspiring Ghana’s 1-0 victory, made a beeline for the stands shortly after the final whistle.
While attention on the pitch remained fixed on the late drama and celebrations, Semenyo headed straight to his fiancée, Jordeen Buckley, who was watching from the stands.
The moment, captured in images shared on social media, showed the pair embracing warmly, with Semenyo still in his match kit and holding his Player of the Match award.
The couple shared an emotional hug and kiss, momentarily shutting out the noise and intensity of the World Cup stage.
Buckley, a London-based model, proudly held the award as she congratulated her partner following his standout performance in a match that kept Ghana’s Group L hopes alive.
The couple, who have been together since 2020, have shared key milestones in their relationship, including Semenyo’s engagement proposal in November 2025, a moment that was widely circulated online after he went down on one knee in a romantic setting.
On the pitch, Semenyo was instrumental in Ghana’s victory, constantly troubling the Panamanian defence and contributing to the build-up play that led to Yirenkyi’s decisive goal.
Speaking after the match, he admitted the emotional intensity of the win was difficult to put into words.
“Ninety minutes plus five… I don’t even know how to describe that emotion,” he said. “We were all so relieved because we knew how important this game was for us.”
