Samuel Obour Mensah, personal assistant to Hannah Asamoah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Agona East, was arrested by the Agona Swedru Divisional Police following multiple allegations of fraud. About 20 individuals accused Mensah, also known as Agyakoo, of taking money from them under false pretenses, promising to secure recruitment slots in the police, military, or fire service. The amounts taken ranged from GHS 4,000 to 8,000, totaling over GHS 200,000.
Samuel Obour Mensah also known as Agyakoo.
The complaints were formally lodged by Hon. Ismail Odoom, Assembly Member for Agona Asafo Electoral Area. Despite Mensah admitting to the crime during interrogation, police professionalism came into question as he was released shortly after his confession. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Hannah Asamoah intervened, pressuring the police to grant Mensah bail without delay.
When contacted, Police Commander Mr. Kuma acknowledged the case and confirmed that Mensah was granted bail for further investigation.
