President John Dramani Mahama has nominated creative industry executive Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to Nigeria, placing him in charge of one of Ghana’s most strategic diplomatic missions in the sub-region.

The appointment, announced on March 1, 2026, by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is subject to formal approval by the Nigerian government.

If confirmed, Abu will oversee Ghana’s High Commission in Abuja, promote trade and investment, deepen bilateral ties, and provide consular services to Ghanaians living in Nigeria.

Nigeria remains a key regional partner and West Africa’s largest economy, with both countries collaborating closely within the Economic Community of West African States framework. The Abuja posting is therefore considered pivotal to Ghana’s economic diplomacy and regional engagement.

Abu replaces Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, who was recalled after winning the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in Ayawaso East.

Beyond diplomacy, Abu has been active in Ghana’s political space. He contested the Okaikoi Central parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC during the 2024 general election cycle and was initially declared winner. However, the outcome was later overturned following a court challenge.

Professionally, Abu brings over 15 years of experience in media, public affairs, communications and investment promotion.

He is the founder of 3Media Networks and architect of the 3Music Awards, platforms that contributed significantly to Ghana’s creative economy and cultural branding. He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of 3Media Networks, building it into a commercial media enterprise spanning broadcasting, live events and brand partnerships.

He currently leads Meetings & Exhibitions Limited as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, where he oversees high-level conferences and investment-focused convenings involving government officials, diplomatic missions and international partners. He is also the founder of Full Circl Management Limited, providing advisory services in strategic communications and stakeholder engagement.

Earlier in his career, he served as Country Director of Transsion Ghana Limited and held senior roles with international media organisations including Viasat 1, Muse Media Networks, MTV Base and The Africa Channel (USA).

Academically, he holds a BA in Media and Communications and a Diploma in Communication Studies from AUCC and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Sector Management at the University of Ghana Business School.

Fluent in English, Twi, Ga and Hausa, Abu brings cross-cultural communication and stakeholder management experience to the diplomatic role.
