The Ghana Education Service (GES) convened a high-level crisis meeting on Monday, 23rd February 2026, to address recent incidents of violence during inter-school sports competitions in the Central Region.
Director-General Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, along with his management team, met with regional and district education directors, heads of affected schools—including Aggrey Memorial SHS, Adisadel College, Swedru School of Business, Obrachire SHTS, and Kwanyako SHTS—students, parents, and the Technical Advisor to the Education Minister, Prof George K.T. Oduro.
Prof. Davis condemned the acts, stating they undermine the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and mutual respect in school competitions.
He highlighted the importance of sports as a platform for talent development and stressed the need to properly guide students with potential.
The Central Regional Director, Dr Juliette Dufie Otami, had earlier suspended all inter-school sporting activities pending investigations.
Management confirmed no deaths occurred, contrary to false media reports, and that hospitalized students have been discharged and are receiving care. Arrested students are cooperating with police investigations.
Prof. Davis warned that any student found guilty of assault would face sanctions in line with GES regulations and Ghanaian law.
