President John Dramani Mahama is expected to inaugurate the rejuvenated Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) on Saturday in a major milestone aimed at revitalising Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
The ceremony will also mark the official receipt of Ghana’s Jubilee crude oil for local refining, signalling the refinery’s renewed operational capacity and its role in supporting the country’s energy security and industrial development.
According to the Tema Oil Refinery, the opening represents a significant step in its ongoing transformation agenda, which seeks to combine the refinery’s longstanding legacy with modern technology and world-class operational standards.
The refinery says extensive infrastructure upgrades, improved operational systems and a renewed focus on efficiency have positioned TOR to reduce waste, optimise performance and strengthen its competitiveness in the petroleum industry.
The management believes the restart of the Crude Distillation Unit will enhance local refining capacity, reduce dependence on imported refined petroleum products and contribute to Ghana’s broader economic growth objectives.
The event is expected to bring together government officials, key players in the energy sector, industry stakeholders and development partners to witness what TOR describes as the beginning of a new chapter in the refinery’s transformation.
