Ghana’s Judiciary will begin the full digitalisation of courts across the country in October 2026 as part of efforts to improve access to justice and enhance the efficiency of the judicial system.

Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie announced the initiative at a grand durbar held in Accra to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court.

According to the Chief Justice, the digitalisation programme will commence at the start of the 2026/2027 legal year and forms part of a broader judicial reform agenda aimed at modernising court operations and speeding up the administration of justice.

He said the reforms are intended to ensure that justice delivery becomes more efficient while making judicial services more accessible to Ghanaians across the country.

The commemorative event also featured a call for greater judicial independence and impartiality from the Chairman of the durbar, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV.

Togbe Afede expressed concern over the absence of a constitutional limit on the number of Justices who can be appointed to the Supreme Court, warning that the situation could create opportunities for appointments driven by political considerations.

He stressed the need to safeguard the independence and integrity of the Judiciary to strengthen public confidence in the country’s justice system.

The 150th anniversary celebration brought together members of the Bench, Bar, government officials, traditional leaders, legal practitioners and other stakeholders to reflect on the history of Ghana’s Supreme Court and its role in upholding the rule of law.
