Chairman of Parliament’s Health Committee, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, has revealed that the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) will determine its next line of action following a scheduled National Council meeting.
This follows a closed-door meeting held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, between the Health Committee of Parliament, officials from the Ministries of Health and Finance, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and leadership of the GRNMA.
The meeting was aimed at finding a lasting resolution to the ongoing nationwide strike by nurses and midwives.
Addressing journalists after the engagement, Dr. Nawaane described the meeting as productive and expressed optimism that the Association’s final decision would reflect the spirit of dialogue.
“Discussions were fruitful. The nurses have requested to go back to their council, in line with their regulations, and then return with a decision. I think that is fair,” he noted.
The GRNMA began its strike on June 2, 2025, to demand the implementation of its 2024 Collective Agreement.
Their concerns include unpaid allowances, delayed staff postings, a 13-month salary, fuel and medical allowances, among other issues.
The industrial action has significantly disrupted healthcare delivery across the country, with many health facilities operating below capacity due to the absence of nurses and midwives.
