Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has reaffirmed that the funeral of the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, will proceed as scheduled despite objections from her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena Kantanka.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Peace FM, Adwoa Safo said the funeral would commence on July 30 as planned, insisting that all necessary preparations had been completed.

“The funeral will come off live and coloured,” she stated.

She disclosed that her team had formally notified the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to provide adequate security throughout the funeral activities.

According to her, key national figures, including former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Speaker of Parliament and the Chief of Staff, had been informed of the funeral arrangements.

Adwoa Safo said she was determined to give her late father what she described as a befitting burial in recognition of the support he gave her throughout her life.

She maintained that she would not allow what she described as plans for a substandard funeral to replace the arrangements already made.

The former lawmaker also indicated that members of the public should not be surprised if her brother and his supporters attended the funeral in traditional attire despite their opposition to the burial arrangements, recalling that they had done the same during the late Apostle’s 40-day observance.

She further revealed that the funeral date was selected with the approval of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“We went to Otumfuo to get the date,” she said.

Adwoa Safo added that all the children of the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo, with the exception of Akofena, had agreed to the funeral arrangements.

She also ruled out any possibility of reconciliation with her brother, citing what she alleged was a previous attack on her.

“They may shoot a hundred bullets at me while I am in my car, and I may not survive this time.

What would I be looking for at his place after 48 bullets were fired at me?” she claimed.

Expressing concern over the prolonged delay in burying her father, Adwoa Safo urged that the funeral should proceed without further postponement.

She also criticised her brother’s continued opposition, saying he was free to reject the arrangements if he wished.

In addition, she reminded Akofena and his supporters that they were currently on bail and urged them to conduct themselves appropriately throughout the funeral period
