PURC keeps electricity, water tariffs unchanged for fourth quarter of 2026

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has maintained electricity and water tariffs at their third-quarter levels for the fourth quarter of 2026.
The decision means consumers will experience no change in electricity or water tariffs, effective October 1, 2026.

The Commission said the decision followed its quarterly review of key economic and operational factors affecting utility service providers.
For electricity, the PURC considered the Ghana cedi-US dollar exchange rate, inflation, the cost of natural gas and the projected electricity generation mix.
The Commission applied a weighted average exchange rate of GH¢11.5646 to US$1, representing a 3.04% depreciation of the cedi from the third-quarter rate of GH¢11.2228 to US$1.
It also applied an average annual inflation rate of 4.97%, up from 3.43% in the previous quarter, while the weighted average cost of natural gas declined by 1.67% to US$7.8379 per MMBtu.
The projected contribution of hydro generation increased from 20.90% to 24.25%, while thermal generation declined from 79.10% to 75.75%.
Despite the changes in these indicators, the PURC said their combined impact did not warrant an adjustment in electricity tariffs for the fourth quarter.

Under the approved electricity rates, lifeline residential consumers using up to 30 kilowatt-hours will continue to pay 89.9315 Ghana pesewas per kWh, while other residential consumers using up to 300 kWh will pay 203.7509 pesewas per kWh.

Consumption above 300 kWh remains at 269.2235 pesewas per kWh.
The Commission has also maintained tariffs for non-residential and special load tariff customers at their existing levels, with all categories recording a 0% change.
Water tariffs have similarly remained unchanged for the fourth quarter.
Residential customers using up to 5 cubic metres under the lifeline category will continue to pay GH¢5.985381 per cubic metre, while consumption above 5 cubic metres remains at GH¢10.589413 per cubic metre.
The PURC said tariffs for non-residential, commercial, industrial, public institutions, sachet water producers, bottled water and drinks producers, ports and harbours, and other categories would also remain unchanged. The Commission said its quarterly tariff reviews are intended to preserve the real value of existing tariffs and help utility providers remain financially viable while taking into account the impact of utility prices on consumers.
It also assured consumers that it would continue monitoring the performance of regulated utility providers and hold them accountable to regulatory standards and benchmarks to ensure value for money and improved service quality.

The decision will be published in the Gazette and made available on the PURC’s website.
