President John Dramani Mahama has commended Ghanaian engineers, technicians and workers for their role in restoring operations at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), describing their efforts as a testament to the country’s technical expertise and resilience.
The President said the successful revival of the refinery after years of operational challenges was made possible through the dedication, commitment and professionalism of the local workforce.
Speaking at an event to mark the resumption of refining activities at TOR and unveiling of Crude Distillation Unit, President Mahama noted that the achievement demonstrates Ghana’s capacity to rely on its own skilled professionals to restore and manage critical national infrastructure.
He said the refinery’s return to operation represents a significant milestone in the government’s agenda to strengthen energy security, reduce dependence on imported refined petroleum products and maximise the value of Ghana’s crude oil resources.
President Mahama praised the engineers, technicians and other workers whose efforts contributed to the refurbishment of key facilities, including the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU), saying their work had restored confidence in the state-owned refinery.
The President also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the modernisation and long-term sustainability of TOR, stressing that a vibrant refinery is essential to industrialisation, job creation and economic growth.
He expressed optimism that the renewed operations at the refinery would enhance domestic fuel production and contribute to a more resilient and self-reliant energy sector.
