The Ghana Police Service has interdicted seven police personnel over an alleged extortion incident in Accra. The personnel were members of a patrol team accused of demanding money from a member of the public and forcing him to withdraw the money from an ATM.
The interdicted personnel are Inspector Courage Boateng, General Sergeant Stephen Addo, General Corporal Moses Anyravi, General Corporal Prosper Adiabo, General Lance Corporal Samuel Anokye, General Constable Henrietta Coleman and General Constable Bernard Amoako.
According to the Police Service, the officers were interdicted to allow investigations into the incident to proceed. The investigation is being conducted by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB).
The Bureau is responsible for investigating complaints and allegations involving police misconduct. The Police Service said the investigation will determine what happened and inform any further action against the personnel.
“The Ghana Police Service assures the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action taken based on the outcome of the investigation.”
The interdiction means the seven personnel have been removed from active duty while the investigation continues. The Police Service has not disclosed further details about the alleged incident or the amount of money involved.
