The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has officially launched celebrations to mark the 15th anniversary of the Petroleum Commission of Ghana.
The milestone marks 15 years of the Commission’s role in regulating Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector, promoting local content and participation, attracting investment and supporting the responsible development of the country’s petroleum resources.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Jinapor said Ghana must use the anniversary to reflect on the Commission’s achievements while positioning the upstream sector for a stronger and more sustainable future.
He identified revitalising upstream activities, increasing exploration and production, strengthening Ghanaian participation and expanding gas development as key priorities for the sector.
The Minister also stressed the need for Ghana to strategically prepare for the global energy transition while maximising the value of its existing petroleum resources.
According to him, the next 15 years should focus on moving Ghanaian businesses beyond participation in the petroleum industry towards greater ownership, technical capability and global competitiveness.
“The next 15 years must be about transformation; from participation to capability, from contracting to ownership, and from creating opportunities for Ghanaian companies to building globally competitive Ghanaian businesses.”
Dr Jinapor congratulated the Petroleum Commission, its past and present Boards, management and staff for their contribution to the development of Ghana’s petroleum industry over the past 15 years.
He expressed hope that the next phase of the Commission’s work would attract greater investment, deepen Ghanaian participation, strengthen national energy security and contribute to a sustainable energy future.
