The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) has hosted a 26-member delegation from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) as part of efforts to deepen Ghana-China trade and investment relations.
The delegation visited the GFZA Head Office in Accra on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, as part of a pre-Summit programme ahead of the 3rd China–West Africa Medical and Health Industry, AI and Diagnosis Cooperation Summit and Expo.
Welcoming the delegation, Chief Executive Officer of the GFZA, Dr. Mary Awusi, expressed appreciation for the visit and highlighted Ghana’s potential as a strategic investment destination for Chinese businesses.
She said Ghana’s access to the wider African market, coupled with opportunities offered under the Free Zones Scheme, provided a strong platform for investors seeking to establish operations in the country and serve markets across the continent.
The leader of the delegation, Mr. Junchen Liu, also expressed appreciation to the Authority for the warm reception and the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Ghana’s Free Zones Scheme and investment opportunities available to Chinese businesses.
As part of the engagement, the GFZA Director of Marketing and Investment Promotion, Ms. Anita Novi Quashie, delivered a presentation on the Free Zones Programme.
The presentation covered investment incentives, licensing categories, priority sectors and Ghana’s access to the wider African market through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement.
Particular attention was given to the pharmaceutical sector, with discussions highlighting opportunities for investment, local production and value addition in Ghana.
The engagement forms part of the GFZA’s broader efforts to position Ghana as a preferred investment destination while strengthening economic and commercial ties with China, particularly in emerging sectors such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, Artificial Intelligence and medical technology.
The meeting was attended by the GFZA Deputy CEO for Finance and Administration, Mr. Hamidu Sibiri Musah; Deputy CEO for Operations, Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu; and other Directors and Senior Managers of the Authority.
