The Board Chairman of the National Service Authority (NSA), Emmanuel Okai Mintah, says the Authority is saving the government more than GH¢34 million every month following the removal of over 50,000 ghost names from its system.
Speaking on Accra100.5FM, Mr Mintah said the development demonstrates the ability of young Ghanaians to deliver results when entrusted with leadership responsibilities.
He said he was initially concerned about the state of the Authority when he assumed office, citing challenges he attributed to the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and then Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“When I was given the opportunity to serve as Board Chairman of the National Service Authority, I was terrified by the situation I met,” he said.
Mr Mintah explained that engagements with President John Dramani Mahama and other stakeholders gave him the confidence to take up the responsibility and work towards addressing the challenges.
“I have fixed some of the mess, and I am still fixing the rest.
This is why I believe the Ghanaian youth are capable and deserve opportunities to serve,” he stated.
The NSA Board Chairman, who is aspiring to become the National Youth Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2028 elections, urged young people, particularly NDC members, to remain committed to the party and contribute to national development.
He also pointed to President Mahama’s approach to limiting the number of political appointees as evidence of his commitment to youth participation in governance.
According to Mr Mintah, youth-focused institutions and initiatives can continue to operate effectively even as the government seeks to streamline political appointments.
Mr Mintah also serves as Chairman of the NDC National Youth Working Committee.
During the party’s 2024 election campaign, he served as Head of Operations for the National Youth Wing.
His other party positions include Eastern Regional Youth Organiser and Deputy Regional Treasurer.
He is also the leader of the Green Army grassroots movement, which promotes youth participation and campus engagement through the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN).
