The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has outlined a series of activities to be undertaken as part of the two-day national general cleaning exercise declared by government in the aftermath of the recent floods that affected parts of the country.
The exercise, scheduled for Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, 2026, will be held under the theme: “Our Actions, Our Future: Cleaning Ghana After the Floods.”
According to the Assembly, the initiative forms part of efforts to restore environmental sanitation, clear flood debris, improve drainage systems and reduce the risk of future flooding within the Accra Metropolitan area.
As part of the exercise, refuse and disaster waste heaps will be evacuated from all Sanitation Improvement Package (SIP) sites in Ablekuma South, the Agbogbloshie Lorry Park, Kaneshie Market and Pasico.
Street sweeping and kerb brushing activities will be carried out along major roads and busy areas, including the Circle Enclave, High Street, Ring Road and Guggisburg Avenue.
The Assembly also announced that refuse collection from public places and road medians will take place along Ring Road West, popularly known as Mortuary Road, as well as the Circle Enclave.
Desilting works are expected to focus on key flood-prone drains, including the Agbogbloshie Market Drain, London Market area, Chorkor Chemuenaa and Asafoatsie Nettey Road.
In addition, fumigation exercises will be undertaken at Agbogbloshie Market, Avenor Township and the Neoplan Station area and its environs to prevent possible disease outbreaks following the floods.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has urged residents, businesses and community groups to actively participate in the exercise and contribute to efforts aimed at building a cleaner, safer and more resilient city.
