The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has paid GH¢256.49 million to credentialed healthcare providers across the country, pushing its total claims reimbursement for 2026 to approximately GH¢1.46 billion.
The latest disbursement, made in two tranches on July 29 and August 3, covers claims for healthcare services rendered to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) members between January and June 2026.
The payment follows an earlier release of GH¢219.84 million on July 1 for claims up to May, in line with the Authority’s commitment to reimbursing healthcare providers on a monthly basis.
Private healthcare providers received the largest share of the latest payment, amounting to GH¢113.86 million, representing 44.39 per cent of the total. Public healthcare facilities were paid GH¢97.34 million, accounting for 37.95 per cent, while mission healthcare providers received GH¢45.29 million, representing 17.66 per cent.
Commenting on the disbursement, the Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, stressed the importance of timely reimbursement in sustaining healthcare delivery under the NHIS.
“Timely reimbursement remains critical to the effective functioning of the NHIS, enabling facilities to procure medicines and supplies, sustain essential services, and continue serving members without disruption,” he said.
Dr. Bampoe added that prompt settlement of claims also contributes to improved healthcare outcomes and strengthens confidence in the scheme.
The NHIA said the latest payment reflects its continued commitment to the prompt processing and settlement of legitimate claims, ensuring healthcare providers are better positioned to deliver accessible and affordable healthcare services to NHIS members.
