The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released GHS219.8 million to credentialed healthcare providers across the country to support the continuous delivery of healthcare services under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The payment, amounting to GHS219,838,955.41, was made on July 1, 2026, and covers outstanding claims from previous years as well as vetted claims submitted for services provided up to May 2026.

The latest disbursement brings the total amount paid by the NHIA in healthcare claims for the year to nearly GHS1.2 billion, as the Authority seeks to improve provider confidence and ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare for NHIS members.

According to the NHIA, the payment is expected to strengthen the financial position of healthcare facilities and enable them to continue providing quality services to patients.

Private healthcare facilities received the largest share of the latest payment, with GHS98.24 million, representing 44.69 per cent of the total amount.

Public healthcare facilities received GHS80.86 million, accounting for 36.78 per cent, while mission and faith-based providers received GHS40.70 million, representing 18.53 per cent.

The Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, said the disbursement reflects the Authority’s commitment to ensuring timely reimbursement of healthcare providers and improving healthcare delivery under the NHIS.

He explained that the NHIA remains focused on ensuring that all providers, including major hospitals and Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, receive accurate and timely payments for services delivered.

Dr. Bampoe added that the Authority is implementing measures to enhance claims processing efficiency, reduce payment delays, and strengthen collaboration with healthcare providers as part of efforts to support the government’s goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage.

He also urged credentialed healthcare providers to submit claims promptly and accurately in line with established guidelines to facilitate faster vetting and reimbursement.

The NHIA said it remains committed to strengthening the sustainability of the NHIS through improved financing mechanisms, increased provider confidence, and expanded access to quality healthcare services nationwide.
