Aspiring First National Vice Chairman of the opoosition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has pledged to play a frontline role in the party’s campaign to reclaim power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general elections.

Dr Abdul-Hamid made the declaration on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, when he filed his nomination forms at the NPP headquarters to contest the First National Vice Chairman position.

Addressing party supporters and officials, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) said he was prepared to lead the party’s political campaign against the NDC.

“I want this party to put me on the front lines in 2028, and I shall spit pure fire at the NDC. That’s what I represent,” he said.

Dr Abdul-Hamid also presented himself as a versatile politician capable of connecting with different sections of the Ghanaian electorate, including Zongo communities, settler communities, young people, media practitioners and members of the intellectual community.

“I carry everything that this party wants for 2028. I carry settler communities, I carry Zongo communities, I carry media people, I carry the intellectual class, I carry the youth of this country,” he stated.

Using a football analogy to underscore his versatility, he described himself as a “utility player” who could contribute effectively wherever the party assigns him.

“If I were a footballer, I would be called a utility player. Wherever you put me, I am going to play,” he said.

He argued that the NPP needs experienced, adaptable and unifying leaders who can mobilise diverse groups across the country as the party prepares for the 2028 elections.

The filing of nominations for the NPP’s national executive elections opened on Sunday, August 23, and is scheduled to close on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

Aspirants are expected to undergo vetting by the party’s Vetting Committee from Monday, August 31, to Thursday, September 3, 2026, as the party moves forward with the process of electing its next national executive leadership.
